Selection guide — 2026–27 FIS World Cups: Snowboardcross
This page explains who Canada Snowboard can enter in the 2026–27 FIS Snowboardcross World Cups, the block deadlines, and how athletes are ranked for quota spots. It summarizes the official Selection Eligibility and Criteria Sheet.
This protocol decides who Canada Snowboard enters in the 2026–27 FIS Snowboardcross World Cups.
Maximum team size (quota allocation, men | women)
World Cups are grouped into blocks. Each block has its own EOI and selection deadline.
Other dates and deadlines
Submit an EOI before the EOI deadline for each block. National Team athletes are not required to submit an EOI (GSP Section D.2.d).
The Selection Committee’s recommendations of available Quota shall be made on the basis of the athlete’s FIS ranking, points, and performances during the current competition season (as of the Selection Deadline), which is defined as the period between August 2026 – April 2027.
Notwithstanding the identified Selection Deadline for each block of competitive opportunities, Canada Snowboard reserves the right to consider results/FIS points obtained or published after the stated Selection Deadline where the Selection Committee considers, in its sole discretion, that such change is desirable to field the team most capable of achieving Canada Snowboard's performance objectives. Where Canada Snowboard amends the stated Selection Deadline, all applicable references to the Selection Deadline that follow will be taken to mean the amended date.
Appeals must be submitted in accordance with the Canada Snowboard Appeal Policy and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. PST seven (7) days after the date the athlete is notified of the decision.
Level 1 Competitions: Olympic Winter Games, FIS World Championships, FIS World Cups
Level 2 Competitions: FIS Junior World Championship, Continental Cups (Europa Cups, NorAms, South America Cup, Australia National Cup), or World University Games.
To participate in FIS World Cups, athletes must have a minimum of 75 SBX FIS Points to be selected for a Basic Quota (BQ) or a Personal JWCH-WC-NAC/WC Host Nation Quota, or a minimum of 125 SBX FIS Points to be selected for an Additional Quota (AQ) on the most recently published FIS Points List as of the Selection Deadline.
Non-HPP athletes, or athletes who are named to the HPP but use a private coach must have a coach who meet the Coach Eligibility Requirements of the CS GSP document and the coach must accept responsibility for them at each event they wish to participate in before registration is confirmed.
CS HPP Coach(es) - Scope of Responsibility: CS HPP Coaches are responsible only for athletes officially named to the National Team or NextGen in available team positions, in alignment with Canada Snowboard’s strategic focus on podium performance at targeted international events. Coaching support and resources are dedicated exclusively to these designated athletes who designate the CS appointed coach(es) as their primary coach.
Refer to CS HPP General Selection Protocol (GSP) for Health Related Curtailment and Exceptional Circumstances.
Nominations will follow the Decision Making Process described in the General Selection Policy (GSP), starting with the highest priority level (Priority 1) and continuing in descending order (Priority 2, Priority 3, and so on).
Ranking priorities
Eligible members of the 2026/27 Snowboardcross National and NextGen Team (including NextGen Prospects), and those with earned Personal Quota (PQ) spots.
Eligible athletes will be ranked, by FIS declared gender, by taking the athlete’s FIS Point value as described on the most recently published Snowboardcross FIS Points List (as of the Selection Deadline).
Eligible athlete(s), by FIS declared gender, who advance to the final round of at least one (1) of the eligible FIS WC competition from the 2026/27 competitive season (as of the Selection Deadline) in order to be considered.
Eligible athletes will be ranked by taking the athlete’s single best result (placing) from eligible 2026/27 FIS WCs (as of the Selection Deadline).
Any remaining competitive opportunities shall be allocated based on a ranking list, created by FIS declared gender, where eligible athletes will be ranked in descending order (from highest to lowest) by the average of the FIS Point value awarded for their top two (2) final results at eligible Level 2 (or higher) competitions during the current August 2026 through April 2027 competition season (as of the Selection Deadline). Below are the results from which FIS Points will be considered in the ranking process:
a. Level 1 Competitions (WC, WCH, OWG): All results from eligible competitions will be considered.
b. Level 2 Competitions (EC, NAC, SAC, ANC, University Games): Results and FIS Points from eligible competitions must fall within the Top Half (½) of the final field to be considered in the ranking process.
An athlete must have two (2) results which meet the above considerations, otherwise they will not be included in the ranking process or allocated a Quota spot even if a Quota spot remains.
Any remaining Block ‘A’ WC competitive opportunities shall be allocated to the next ranked eligible athlete(s), by declared FIS gender and in descending order, based on the athletes FIS Point value as described on the most recently published FIS Snowboardcross Points List as of the Selection Deadline.
Eligible athletes will be ranked, by declared FIS gender, for remaining competitive opportunities by taking the athletes FIS Point value as described on the most recently published FIS Snowboardcross Points List (as of the Selection Deadline).
This ranking priority only applies to Block A events and shall not be applied to the Criteria Ranking Process of any other Block.
The currently scheduled Snowboardcross Mixed Team (BTX) competitions for the 2026-27 season are:
a. December 13, 2026: Cervinia, ITA
b. March 28, 2027: Mt. St. Anne, QC, CAN
Should additional BTX competitions be added to the FIS World Cup Calendar after the publication of this document, selection into teams will follow the same process as outlined in the General Selection Policy (GSP). The number of teams Canada may field at any given event will be determined according to FIS World Cup Rules.
Mixed Team event participation for Canadian athletes will be determined as outlined in the General Selection Policy (GSP).
